Martin Jakob

"The results of our work serve as a basis for important decisions of companies, associations and authorities in energy matters. It is important to collectively consider technical, economic and political aspects – very much in the spirit of TEP – and to go from the individual to the big picture."

Martin's focus is to capture customer needs and provide targeted, in-depth advice on refocusing their goals and developing their strategies. His specialisation lies in the conception of energy demand models and the linking of modelling and empiricism, in particular evaluating the costs and benefits of energy-efficient construction and renovation, as well as potential analyses within the energy sector. Concrete examples of such implementations and applications include market and structural analyses, quantitative potential and economic evaluations, strategic developments as well as energy and climate policy assessments and implementations. Martin has more than 25 years of experience in applied science and specialist consulting and has an extensive understanding of the relationships between technology, economics and politics, as well as a differentiated methodological framework.

Martin completed his basic education with a diploma in physics and engineering at EPFL Lausanne and a PhD at the ETH Zurich on the topic of energy efficiency in residential buildings. Prior to that, he gained practical experience in an engineering office and worked as a researcher at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). He has been executive partner of TEP Energy since 2008, where he is responsible for project development and management as well as quality assurance of all projects. Since 2014, he has also been involved in setting up and managing ESA2 GmbH, based in Karlsruhe, Germany, in order to combine established energy system models from various international research institutions on a platform for the analysis of cross-system issues in the energy industry. In addition, Martin volunteers at various organisations, such as the Swiss Academies or the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects (SIA).

When he is not engulfed in his work, Martin seeks an active and contemplative balance in sports (both on land and in the water), in nature (in the mountains and valleys), around the house (there is always something to do) and at home (cooking and reading) or in the cultural city of Baden.
