Calculation Aid II for 2000-watt Areas

The increasing concern caused by advancing climate change and the steadily increasing consumption of resources such as energy, land, raw materials etc. requires a rethinking towards the sustainable use of resources and energy sources. The vision of the 2000-watt society demands such a development and stands for a sustainable and climate-friendly society. The vision can be implemented at various levels, from individual buildings to sites, municipalities, cantons and the country as a whole.

The certificate "2000-Watt-Areale" (200-Watt Site), which equates to an energetic sustainability label and instrument, permits the assessment of the sustainability of larger buildings and sites in the development and operation phase, considering density, mixed building use and induced mobility.

The previous Calculation Aid I for 2000-watt sites allowed the assessment of areas with a high proportion of new construction in an early development phase of the site.
For various reasons, Calculation Aid I can no longer be adapted to the revised SIA 2040:2017, which is why a new accounting tool – Calculation Aid II – was developed.

Calculation Aid II replaces the previous Calculation Aid I for 2000-watt sites and at the same time represents a comprehensive data platform for quantitative verification. It enables verification in all phases of site development – planning, realisation and monitoring during operation – and corresponds to the methodology described in the latest manual for the 2000-Watt Site certificate (version 2017).

With Calculation Aid II, not only areas with a high proportion of new buildings can now be calculated for an early planning phase, but also key figures (project values) for conversions and existing buildings.
The relevant key figures are determined according to certain phases, either from a few input data and statistical values from the Building Stock Model (BSM) or from detailed project data. For the operation phase of the site, a quantitative proof can be provided within Calculation Aid II.
Calculation Aid II also creates the prerequisites for the introduction of a third certificate – the 2000-Watt Site in Transformation – in which both the initial state and a reduction path are described. The comprehensive administration of the data for all phases of site development also facilitates the task of the certification body.
