Following a popular vote, the city of Zurich has set itself the goal of reducing its direct emissions to net zero by 2040 and reducing its indirect emissions (also known as grey emissions or production emissions) by 30% compared to 1990 levels. In order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to establish a basis for understanding the current status and past developments and for planning and implementing further strategies. TEP Energy was commissioned by the City of Zurich's Office for Environmental Protection and Health to develop this basis and to use scenario modelling to demonstrate the impact of strategic approaches (levers) on the development of Scope 3 emissions by 2040. The results have now been published.
