“All models are wrong, but some are useful”
When used correctly, the results of energy system models can deliver a very important contribution for a fact-based discourse on the energy transition. Energy system models can serve as a basis for corporate strategies, political decisions and the energy strategies of local authorities, towns and regions.
Samuel is an energy systems modeller at TEP Energy. His work focuses on further developing the TEP models and improving their user-friendliness. In addition, he develops visualisation tools and data workflows, and implements AI-supported programming within the models. Working at TEP gives him the opportunity to apply the expertise he gained at ETH Zurich and the Energy Science Centre in this highly specialised field and to work on this highly relevant and exciting topic.
Samuel completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at ETH Zurich. During his Master’s programme, he specialised in energy systems. After completing his studies, he was employed as a systems modeller at the Energy Science Centre at ETH Zurich, where he worked on models of the Swiss electricity system and the European electricity market.
In his spare time, Samuel enjoys lots of sports, such as ski touring, mountain biking, beach volleyball and volleyball, bouldering and climbing. He also enjoys playing the marimba.
